Blitz Hill - An Evening on the Home Front Enjoy an evening on the home front as Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge is transformed to the 1940s of World War Two between 6pm and 9pm on Saturday 21st June 2014.

Come along to the Blitz Hill event dressed in period civilian costume and experience the food and entertainment of the day as the town travels four decades into the ‘future’.

This family event is a chance for younger visitors to discover about the past and those who remember the war years to reminisce and share their memories.

Discover how people made the most of food rationing, enjoy your portion of kali and buy a spam fritter. There’s no need to fear as that’s where the rationing ends – plentiful supplies of delicious fish and chips from the Fried Fish Dealers and beer in the New Inn Public House will be available to purchase during the evening.

The blackout has been lifted for one night only; see red-hot iron being poured in the foundry, listen to the brass band playing music of the time, meet the ARP warden and the WVS leader, see vintage vehicles and steam engines and join the Home Guard for their drill.

During the evening there will be a concert in the impressive ironworks in the style of the popular ‘BBC’s Workers Playtime Show’ that toured factories and workplaces all over the country boosting the spirit and camaraderie of the nation.

Tickets to the Blitz Hill evening event must be purchased in advance from the entrance shop at Blists Hill Victorian Town, the Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre, Enginuity and Coalport China Museum, priced at £8.50 for adults and seniors, £5.50 children aged 3-15 years and £25 family (two adults and two children). All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Ironbridge Gorge Museum Annual Passport Tickets are not valid for this evening.
