Old Downton Lodge Open Day

Old Downton Lodge near Ludlow are opening their doors to the public on Sunday 13th April 2014, from 12-5pm, to raise funds for Wigmore School,with nature walks and cream teas served in the stunning court yard garden.

For the first time ever this picturesque lodge will be showing customers what lies behind the stone walls of the building, the huge cider wheel in the Museum room and giving visitors the chance to enjoy a cream tea in the sunshine.

There will be 3 mapped walking routes. The first an easy 1.5mile circular route taking you through the ancient lime tree avenue there are beautiful views to Ludlow and Clee Hill and also over to Leintwardine and the Welsh mountains. The second route continues down into Leintwardine and back along the river Teme with chances of spotting Kingfishers and Dippers. The 3rd and most challenging route includes part of the Herefordshire Trail through the Downton gorge nature reserve SSSI and past Downton Castle. There will be opportunities to spot Kites and Buzzards, View the ruins of Old Downton Church and motte, take part in the nature trail and have a look around the stunning gardens on site.

David the manager at Old Downton Lodge says “we get regularly asked about the space here at Old Downton Lodge and so we thought we would throw open the doors and our tranquil setting will provide an escape from the pressures of everyday life while giving the entire family a real countryside day out.”

There will be cream teas available on the day raising money for Wigmore School and nature trail sheets for the kids alongside bird watching sheets.
