17th July 2012

It was good to see members at our AGM at the Long Mynd hotel, as guests of its new owners, HF holidays. We also had a presentation from local accountants Andrews, Orme & Hinton on Cloud Accounting

Nigel Hinton, director of Andrews, Orme & Hinton Ltd, Chartered Accountants gave an entertaining talk on some highlights from the recent budget.

Nigel talked about Tax Simplification for small businesses and the threshold turnover for compulsory VAT registration rising to £77,000 and this being a possible figure for a new simple way to calculate the taxable profits of these nano sized businesses.

He went on to mention his personal disappointment at the effective elimination of higher personal allowances for people aged over 65 the so called Granny Tax.

But he was positive about the planned reduction in Corporation Tax Rates started by this budget.

Nigel concluded that the Chancellor had an impossible task to reduce public over spending and to stimulate the growth of the UK economy.

Nigel then moved on to talk about cloud computing and specifically ICAN accounting.

For the technically minded Cloud Computing provides computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services.

ICAN accounting uses plain English and minimum accounting jargon and the system makes record-keeping a pleasure and has been designed for ease of use and minimum paper generation.

The system is ideal for start ups and owner managed businesses on the move and those who travel nationally and internationally. log on for a 56 second briefing
