Free, fun and friendly - enjoy Oswestry Food Festival Weekend in July

On July 15th and 16th, the small market town of Oswestry on the borders of Shropshire and Wales opens its streets to the finest local food producers of this borderland country – and it’s free! Enjoy two days of tasting and enjoying the finest local produce as you wander the streets of our market town. Oswestry is renowned for its café culture so you will never be far from a welcoming coffee shop if you need a cuppa after using all that energy wandering round the stalls.

May half term is almost upon us and during this school break the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has planned a week of wartime nostalgia to keep the younger members of the family entertained. Taking place from Saturday 27 May to Sunday 4 June, visitors are invited to join in a fun flying themed craft activity and wartime trail, suitable for children of all ages.

Shropshire Hills’ Exclusive Butterfly Garden Springs Into Life!

Butterflies and other insects are set to dine in style as a result of a new project led by West Midlands Butterfly Conservation. Volunteers from the charity have worked with Grow Cook Learn at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms to create the county’s first Pollinators’ Garden and Insect Hotel. The plants have been provided by local Shropshire business CJ Wildlife who are based near Shrewsbury.

Museum launches new Cold War Lunchtime Lecture series

On 17 March, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be hosting the first Cold War Lunchtime Lecture of 2017 with a lecture entitled ‘Coping with Technological Uncertainty: Military Aircraft Procurement, 1945-1957’. In this lecture, Professor Keith Hayward, a consultant and writer on aerospace and aviation issues, will examine Britain’s military aircraft procurement process during the early period of the Cold War.

German bomber wings its way to the Midlands

A rare example of the great German multi-role combat aircraft of the Second World War, the Junkers Ju88, has been transported by road to its new home in the Midlands. This particular aircraft, a Ju88R-1 night-fighter version, travelled 130 miles from the Royal Air Force Museum London, to its sister site at Cosford, Shropshire where it will soon go on public display.
