Description

Wollerton Old Hall Garden is an example of horticultural excellence set in the Shropshire countryside, about 1 hour travelling from Manchester, Chester and Birmingham.

Developed on the side of a 1530's Hall House, this garden is one of the most important in Shropshire.  It is one of only two in the county with the 2 star rating in the Good Garden Guide.

Lesley Jenkins realised very quickly that the age of the site demanded linear formality.  North-south and east-west vistas created a number of individual gardens separated by birch, beech, yew and oak.

Within these gardens she has developed individual planting style and colour themes, taking advantage of each microclimate.  Intensive cultivation of perennials has resulted in significant collection of new world salvias, clematis, paniculata phlox and roses.

Lesley's skills were recognised when the garden was chosen by the Royal Horticultural Society as a partner garden and by Japanese television as the location for the Four Seasons in an English Garden.
